Srinagar, June 25: The hillock shrine of sixteenth century saint Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA) on Koh-e-Maran in Shahr-e-Khaas will soon have cable car access for the visitors –making the climb mere three odd minutes long.
 This was decided Friday by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who approved the Rs 6 crore Makhdoom Sahib Cable Car project. He was chairing a high level meeting in the City to discuss the details of the project.
 An official handout said: “The scheme to be executed by J&K Cable Car Corporation envisages setting up of a rope way system at Dargah Makhdoom Sahib Srinagar at a cost of Rs 6 crore. The Project is expected to be completed within 18 months after its launch.”
 “The horizontal length of the ropeway will be 541 meters with 4 cabins in each cluster with a capacity and design of 225 at Max speed of 4m/sec. The ropeway type will be mono cable jigback. The cabins will be fully enclosed with manual doors. The one way time from the base station to the upper station will be 3.2 minutes approximately.”
 The cable car after completion will be handed over to the Waqaf Board while J&K Cable Car Corporation will manage its operation through the mutually agreed arrangement, the handout said.
 Omar Abdullah directed for construction of befitting design for the base and upper stations of the ropeway.
The Minister for Finance, AR Rather, Minister for Rural Development, Ali Muhammad Sagar, Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Sogami, Advisors to Chief Minister, Mubarak Gul and Devender Singh Rana, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
A PowerPoint presentation regarding the features of the project and its financial plan was made in the meeting.
Meanwhile, a separate PowerPoint presentation pertaining to Rs 50 crore Naagar Nagar development project for the old City covering Nigeen and Dal lakes was made in the meeting. The centrally sponsored project will conserve the heritage sites and restore the pristine glory of tourist places in the City. The project also envisages a Gandola type cable car project.
