Poonch–Rawalakote cross LoC trade dispute resolved

Trade to resume from June 29: Traders

SHAFIQ MIR

Rajouri, June 25: The traders associated with cross LoC trade through Poonch-Rawalakote route have agreed to resume the trade from June 29 after four weeks of their boycott.
The matter was resolved at a meeting of government officials and the representatives of traders in the office chamber of District Development Commissioner Poonch on Friday.
Announcing decision, Cross LoC trade union leaders Pawan Annand and Sheraz Ahmed Khan said the traders have decided to resume the trade on the next due date i.e. June 29.
They said the decision was taken after government acceded to most of their demands and an assurance has been given to resolve other pending issues in near future.
From traders’ side, the meeting was attended by Pawan Anand, Sheraz Khan, Sardar Krishan Singh, Rajive Tandan and Haji Munshi Khan. While the government was represented by district Development Commissioner Poonch, K L Khajuria beside other officers associated with Cross LoC trade in Poonch.
The traders said that government has conceded most of their demands and those pending will be resolved soon as promised.
They said another round of meeting between the traders of Rawalakote and Poonch will be organised by both the administration at Chakaan Da Bag in near future in which other related issues will be discussed.
It is pertinent to mention here that Poonch –Rawalakote trade remained suspended in the past four weeks due to the traders boycott of the business from both the sides.
The traders on this side had alleged that the local police and civil administration had been harassing them on one or the other pretext. However, the allegation was always denied and rejected by the officials.
In the last week, the government had decided to sideline the local traders and tried to involve the Jammu based traders in the business but they were not entertained by the traders of other side of the LoC saying that they would trade with only local traders of Poonch.
With this development government was forced to make the further deal with the local traders.
