Azad for better healthcare

Srinagar, June 26: The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Saturday said Public- Private Partnerships (PPP) were vibrant mechanism for transfer of private sector expertise into the public sector at affordable costs.
 Addressing a gathering at the annual convention of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) at Washington DC, he said countries that recognized the strengths of the PPPs early, were able to set-up systems that enabled them to maximize public good.
 He also outlined the reforms process being implemented in the health sector in India and highlighted the fertile opportunities for PPP that were now emerging in the Indian health sector.
 He said India and USA had ten bilateral agreements in areas including vaccine research, contraceptives, reproductive health and infectious disease surveillance. “As many as 226 NIH RO1 grants are currently operative in India. The development of the Rota Virus vaccine and the Malaria vaccine are also products of co-operative agreements between the two countries,” he said.
