Ladakh meet on “Sowa Rigpa” ends

Leh, June 27: The Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, organized a seminar “Sowa Rigpa”, the science of Amchi medicine here on Sunday.
Chering Dorje, Chief Executive Councilor, Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh was the chief guest during the first session while as Tsering Angchuk, Deputy, Commissioner/CEO, Leh attended the conference as chief guest during the second session.
Twelve prominent local doctors (Amchis) presented their papers during the function in which many scholars and writers were present.
Chering Dorje emphasized the need for “Sowa Rigpa” to go hand in hand with modern system of medicine. “This is so because the later is not sufficient to tackle the challenges posed by new diseases,” Dorje said.
Tsering Angchuk expressed happiness over the role and function of Leh Academy in promoting Ladakhi Culture and Language and assured that the Administration was ready to extend its support to the Academy in its endeavors. Tsering Norboo, a local physician of repute, emphasized that the doctors and Amchis should update their knowledge in view of changing pattern of diseases.
“We must remain abreast of changes that cause new diseases,” Norboo said.
Earlier, welcoming the chief guests and dignitaries, Special Officer for Culture, Mipham Otsal highlighted the role and function of the Academy in the preservation and promotion of Ladakh culture.
