Mirwaiz Umar announces ‘civil disobedience’

Asks People To Come Out On Streets And Protest

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 28: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Monday appealed people to come out of their homes on Tuesday, assemble at centrally located places of their areas and stage peaceful protests against killing of innocents as a first step towards civil disobedience.
“The state government has itself admitted that it has no control on the CRPF troopers operating in Kashmir and they have gone unbridled as a result of which they are indulging in innocent killings and other human rights violations. We appeal the people belonging to all sections including government employees and traders to come on streets on Tuesday and assemble at centrally located places of their areas and raise peaceful protest demonstrations against the continued innocent killings by the unbridled armed forces in Kashmir so that the international attention could be drawn to the worsening Kashmir situation,” said Mirwaiz.
“This will be the first step towards civil disobedience. The agitation shall be intensified if this trend of killings of innocent teenagers continues,” he said.
Expressing deep anger and anguish over the killing of two innocent civilians, Tajamul Ahmad Bhat of Sopur and nine-year old Tufail Ahmad Rather of Varmul, in the indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators by the armed forces, Mirwaiz termed it highly condemnable and an inhuman act. He paid rich tributes to these martyrs and expressed solidarity with their families. He prayed for the speedy recovery of civilians injured in the indiscriminate firing on peaceful processions by the armed forces at different places in district Srinagar, Varmul, Islamabad, Pulwama, Budgam, Shopian, Kupwara and Ganderbal.
“Despite arrests of leaders, barricades at various places, restrictions on public transport and deployment of heavy contingents of police and CRPF troopers, thousands of people assembled at historic Mirwaiz Manzil in the early morning today and started marching towards Sopur, raising pro-freedom slogans. When the procession reached Lawaypora near Narbal, the police and paramilitary forces opened fire and lobbed teargas shells on the procession, injuring scores of people,” said the spokesman, condemning the use of indiscriminate use of forces against peaceful and inoffensive civilians.
