Adopt composite farming to boost agriculture: Mir

Srinagar, June 2: Saying that agriculture and its allied sectors have a huge scope of employability, Minister for Agriculture,   Ghulam Hassan Mir has called upon the farmers of the State to adopt composite farming to boost the sector.

 The Minster was speaking at a one day seminar on Cooperative leadership organised by the J&K State Cooperative India Ltd. to bring Honey and Strawberry under cooperative fold, an official statement said.

 Minister of State for Cooperatives, Dr. Manhoar Lal also spoke on the occasion. Director Agriculture Kashmir, Director Sericulture, Director Horticulture, Director Command Area and senior officers of cooperatives were present on the occasion.


 Mir said that multiple cropping system along with allied Agriculture activities is necessary for farmers for their economic stability and it would certainly help to widen their activity besides having a larger scope of employability. He said that we are possessing good talent and stressed for channelizing it in right direction for achieving maximum benefits to make JK self reliant in Agriculture produce.

 The Minister said that from this year, the Department would reward progressive farmers of the State for their successful achievement in the field of agriculture and its allied sectors to bring back old glory to the Department. He said these rewards are being given to them from block to State level to encourage those who want to opt it as a profession.  He said that the our thrust area is to infuse the latest technical knowhow utilised in the sector across the world to bring green revolution in JK for which many steps have already taken.


 For bringing Agriculture revolution in the state, the Minister called upon the SKUAST, extension department and farmers to work in a greater coordination at the ground level to achieve the desired results in every segment of the sector. He hoped that our research scientists will work with same zeal and dedication and infuse a new life for its revival.


 Appreciating the role of progressive farmers,   Mir said that their expertise and contribution would play a greater role in motivating educated youth to come forward for opting this as a profession.


 Dr. Manhoar Lal said that Cooperative Department has a greater role to facilitate marketing facilities to all types of Agriculture produce as better marketing is the only driving force to boost agriculture and its allied sectors. He said that our farmers are contributing a lot for the society and added that the Government is taking every step for commercialisation of Agriculture as has been done by our neighbouring States.


 He said the motive behind for organising such seminars is  to create awareness among the farmers about the facilities provided by the Government to them. He said that on the first step honey and strawberry would be provided the marketing facility and said that there is a large scope to provide marketing facilities to other items also. He said there is a need to review the cooperative movement at the grass root level to provide marketing facility to the farming community during their Rabi and Kharief seasons.


 On the occasion, various progressive farmers also spoke and put forth their expertise in farming sector.
