Futile talks
This refers to the news story “Talks, killings can’t go together: Mirwaiz” (GK June 01). There is no doubt that human rights violations and talks can’t go hand in hand. But I think the leadership is unable to understand the gravity of the human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. When an ordinary man is able to understand the same, why not Hurriyats? Aren’t they a witness to Shopian and Machil tragedies? I am reminded of Abraham Lincoln’s saying: you can fool all the people some time and some people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Let there be accountability and transparency in Kashmir. Kashmiris are suffering for the past many years. Now it is time to let them heave a sigh of relief. State government, if not the Centre, should understand the pain of Kashmiris who are living under trying circumstances.
