Machil killings
This refers to the news titled 'Geelani seeks ICJ probe into Machil killings.’ It is disheartening to see our leaders asking something which lacks substance. ICJ has jurisdiction only to decide international disputes between states (countries) with no jurisdiction to decide killings within a state. Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute, but Kashmir is not an internationally recognized state. Instead our leaders should have sought probe by international criminal court (ICC). But for ICC to take cognizance of these matters, public opinion in the form of representations at internal level should have been worked out. On year has passed since the Shopian tragedy, but our leaders have failed to do anything to get the issue noticed by the ICC. Our leaders must shun differences and work toward realization of their goals practically, and not just verbally.
