GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 2: Irked at the slow pace of work on ongoing projects in the City, particularly the drainage project along Hyderpora bypass, the R&B Minister GM Saroori on Wednesday called a high level meeting directing for a double shift on the projects.

Sources said Saroori told the meeting that “if the work will go on at its present pace, by the time the project is completed, most of the houses in the surroundings will collapse.”

An official handout while confirming the meeting said: “Calling upon to ensure completion of the works taken up in Srinagar city by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), in time bound manner, the Minister for R&B,   GM Saroori asked the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) to adopt double shift system for all the projects to accrue more results in minimum time.”

The Minister was speaking at an officers meeting convened to review the pace of road and drainage projects taken up by NBCC in the City, attended, among others, by the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar,   Meraj Ahmad Kakroo, Chief Engineer, R&B, Kashmir,   Nazir Ahmad, MD, JKPCC,   Tehsin Mustaffa, SSP, Traffic,   Showkat Ahmad, senior officers, and engineers from National Highway Authority of India, Power Development Department, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, NBCC and ERA.

“The shifting of utilities at Hyderpora Bypass junction remained focused in the meeting and it was decided that a joint inspection would be conducted to take stock of the bottlenecks hampering the utility shifting process.  It was decided in the meeting that final decision for shifting of utilities and diversion of traffic would be taken after conducting joint inspection of R&B, NBCC, ERA, BSNL, PDD, PHE departments.

Saroori asked NBCC and all line departments to maintain close coordination and ensure that work on any project shall not suffer due to shifting of utilities or any other reason.

The Minister directed NBCC to take up new works only after completing the projects already taken in hand to avoid public inconvenience.

“I want results on ground and do not believe on paper work”  Saroori exhorted and said that Government was serious in improving the basic facilities to the people.

He said that the projects delayed by NBCC are causing tremendous hardships to the people, adding every line department should play their role in completing the projects early.
