Gujjar conference postponed

SHAFIQ MIR

Rajouri, June 29: The National Gujjar Maha Sangum conference scheduled on July 10 has been postponed by the organisers for an indefinite period due to the present unrest in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Confirming it, President SC/ST confederation, Master Iqbal Chowdhary said he had stopped the preparations for the conference. “I am following the instructions of the community leaders who say the event couldn’t be organised in the present circumstances as the state was passing through an alarming stage,” he said.
“At present we have decided to postpone the conference till the law and order situation improves in the state”, he added. Similar reasons were put forth by the Co-ordinator of the interstate Gujjar Conference and secretary Tribal Research Foundation, Dr Javaid Rahi. He said the situation was not conducive in the state therefore the leaders of the community had decided to postpone the event till the situation improves.
Pertinent to mention here that an amalgam of about 17 Gujjar organisations operating in the Jammu and Kashmir had announced to organise a national level Gujjar conference at Rajouri district on July 10 for which prominent Hindu Gujjar leaders across the country were also invited by the organisers. Sources said prominent Hindu Gujjar leader of the Rajasthan Col. Bhansela and Sachin Pilot was also invited by the organisers.
