MNREGA key to socio-economic uplift

Jammu, June 3: Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma who is also chairman of Vigilance Monitoring Committee (VMC) for efficient implementation of centrally sponsored schemes called upon officers of district administration to execute centrally schemes in true spirit as per guidelines. Local legislators be consulted while chalking out development projects and no compromise is tolerable in quality of work executed, he added, an official statement.
Sharma was reviewing the achievements registered under centrally sponsored schemes at an officers meeting convened under his chairmanship, here today.
Vice Chairman, Gujar & Bakerwal Advisory Board, Bashir Ahmed Naz, MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, District Development Commissioner, Poonch, Kuldeep Lal Khajuria, President Municipal Committee Poonch, Rajinder Singh and members of the committee attended the meeting.
The meeting took various decisions for result oriented execution of centrally sponsored schemes launched for socio-economic upliftment of rural masses. It was impressed upon the officers to give wide publicity regarding implementation of centrally schemes to aware the public regarding their execution at each block and district levels through media and awareness campaign. It was given out that 100 days employment be provided to unskilled youths during lean session in year for which there is requirement of plan information or pre-sanctioned of funds from authorities. He instructed DDC to constitute sub-committees to monitor execution of these works regularly under MNREGA, IAY, PMGSY, SGSY, Haryali, TSC, NSAP and RGGVY etc. It was further decided that review meetings would be convened quarterly in each district henceforth.
Sharma instructed ACD Poonch to conduct a thorough survey of border belt of the district and prepare a list of BPL persons for sanctioning one time financial assistance under IAY. He further laid stressed that construction and upgradation of water bodies and water tanks be focused for augmenting water supply He addressed an awareness campaign at community hall Poonch organized by Rural Development Department wherein people from rural areas and from all walks of life attended the campaign.
MLA Haveli highlighted local demands and informed MP regarding deficiency of technical engineering staff in RDD in the district. He further demanded special financial package for the earthquake victim of 2005.
Reviewing achievements the meeting was told that during current fiscal year Rs.26.16 crore has been sanctioned for the district under MNREGA with a target to provide jobs to 38000 families. Till date rural 3570 works have been completed incurring Rs.20.89 crore and generating 14.20 lakh man days.
