Pugwash Indo-Pak Commission on cards

GHULAMULLAH KIYANI

Islamabad, June 3: The participants from India and Pakistan in a 2-day Pugwash Conference on Thursday agreed to constitute a ‘Pugwash Indo-Pak Commission’ but said Kashmir issue would be separated from it.
Several participants in the conference who spoke to GK said that the decision to constitute the Commission was unanimous.
The conference discussed threadbare the Indo-Pak composite dialogue and also the situation in Afghanistan.
This, the participants said, is the first instance when Afghanistan has been bracketed with Indo-Pak dialogue.
“The track II dialogue is meant to restore the stalled track I dialogue process between the governments of India and Pakistan,” they said.
Indian participants, he said, asked Pakistan to prove that Pakistanis were not involved in attacks in India. “They also expressed concern over the acquittal of Hafiz Saeed by a Pakistani court.”
The participants stressed on the need to have such a legal system in place which would prevent Mumbai-like attacks from taking place in future. The former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief of India, A S Daulat and former ISI chief, General (retired) Asad Durrani also participated in the conference.
