Global phenomenon
The article “Together we can” by S. Affan Yesvi (GK June 3) was a thoughtful piece and depicted the problem of widespread hunger. Hunger is a multi-faceted problem. It is not only a rural or urban phenomenon, but a global one in overt or covert forms. Sociologically speaking, more population means unemployment, low production, low GDP, poor income, no shelter, no food and more hunger. Hunger in India is a problem worth attention. Even in big cities it has caught hold of vulnerable groups like children and women. Despite agricultural progress, new technologies, latest techniques we fail to combat hunger. We need efficient planning with massive coverage and adequate funds to combat it. In this regard both NGOs and government must take keen and timely interest. We need to address the problem now.
