3 troopers killed in road mishap

Jammu, June 6: Three army men were killed and 18 others injured when a vehicle they were travelling in overturned and rolled into a drain here Saturday night, police said.
Twenty six troopers of 20-Grenadiers regiment were returning to their unit from Chinore firing range at Akhnoor, when their vehicle overturned and rolled into the drain at Paloura area, killing three of them, they said adding 18 army men were injured, seven of them seriously.
The BSF and army shifted the injured to GMC hospital, Military and BSF hospitals, they said.
On May 21, in an early morning mishap in Rajouri district, a Rashtriya Rifles Major was killed and three others, including a Colonel, were injured when their vehicle collided head on with a tipper at Sunderbani area. On the same day,five army men were killed and six others injured when an army vehicle of 43 Rastriya Rifles travelling towards Surankote belt of Poonch district skidded off the road and fell down into a 150-feet deep gorge near Duggar Gala in Chingus area in Rajouri district.
Earlier on February 28, a junior commissioned officer was killed in a road accident in Rajouri district when he was reportedly hit by army’s water tanker. He was on way to his native Siri village from 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles unit in Nowshera belt of Rajouri district.
