Deafening sound

It’s so disheartening to see the firecracker menace on rise in Srinagar these days. Somehow people draw sadistic pleasure from deafening sound waves that emanate as a result of this uncalled for action. What makes bursting fire crackers criminal in Kashmir is the fact that majority of people here are in a state of severe psychological distress as a result of the years of conflict. The loud, unbearable din of the present day firecrackers bring out worst nightmares in most of us and yet there are people here, a huge number, who experience severe anxiety symptoms as a result.  It takes a few moments of careful listening before this curiosity is laid to rest. The need of the hour is to enact some stringent laws banning this practice. The government needs to bring a strong prohibition policy on fire crackers so that its use, storage and sale are regulated if not completely banned.
