Saw mills
This refers to the climate change and cleanliness in environment about which we see every second man writing. Amidst all this we are missing some smaller but more significant things. Kashmir is known for its climate and purity in environment which is contributing to economy by attracting more and more tourists. But unfortunately we are ourselves halting our progress. We are ourselves responsible for our actions among various activities.
Take Sopur town. No regulations on saw mills here. Band saw units numbering hundreds use thousands of square feet of wood. The two main types used are willow and poplar. That creates a lot of imbalance in the environment. The alternate forms for wooden fruit boxes has not been accepted by us. More saw mills mean more problems for people. That is a grave concern and has to be addressed.
Second, it must be ensured that whether these units are running with or without any certification from Pollution Control Board. That will check the misuse of these units and will help minimize the level of pollution.
