Divided Congress puts up united show before PM

Soz-led delegation included Azad supporters

GOWHAR BHAT

Srinagar, June 8: Putting aside their differences, state Congress leaders on Monday evening met the Prime Minister as a single unit at the SKICC here.
The party members have been divided into two groups on the basis of loyalties either to state President Saifuddin Soz or to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. However, on Monday, when a Congress delegation led by Saifuddin Soz met the PM, it comprised leaders from both the factions.
The Prime Minister’s message to the party leadership and members was clear: “All leaders must show resolve to strengthen the party at all levels and promote unity in the ranks for the better service of people.”
Sources said Soz and other leaders expressed satisfaction over the PM’s statement that terror, in whatsoever form, needs to be fought and the policy of the zero tolerance of human rights abuses.
“The human rights violations shall not be tolerated. The rights of the civilians need to be protected while dealing with militancy,” Soz told the PM.
He thanked the PM for his initiative towards strengthening and carrying forward the dialogue process by inviting those groups to talks who abhorred violence.
The delegation hailed him for taking keen interest for promotion of equitable peace and development of all three regions of the state, and for being generous in providing funds to the state.
