Srinagar, June 8: A militant was killed in a gunfight in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.
Police sources told Greater Kashmir that troopers of 62 and 9 RR assisted by police cordoned Arhabal village in Kulgam this morning” The militants hiding there fired on search party which was retaliated triggering fierce encounter in which one militant was killed,” they said, adding that gunfight is still on.
“More militants are believed to be hiding in the area,” they said.
Meanwhile suspected militants hurled a grenade on the CRPF bunker at Firdous cinema Hawal in the Srinagar city late night, however grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the road, sources added.
“No one was injured in the attack,” they added.
4 MINES EXPLODE ALONG LOC
Four mines Tuesday exploded due to a forest fire along the Line of Control (LOC) in Balakote forward belt of Poonch sector, police officials said.
The fire erupted near Gola area along the LoC and soon spread in nearly one km area uptill Balakote forward belt in Poonch sector this morning, they said.
Due to the fire, four mines exploded, they said, adding that forest officials, army and police besides, some villagers are engaged in dousing the flames.
IED DEFUSED IN RAJOURI
An IED, planted by suspected militants, was defused by security forces in Rajouri district’s upper Shahdra Sharief area, close to the house of Rukhsana Kousar, who killed a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) commander at her house in 2008.
On a tip off, troops detected and defused the IED, weighing one kg, planted by the militants to target the house of Kousar in upper Shahdra Sharief area of Thanamandi tehsil of the district last night, police officials said.
Kousar was not in her house at the time of the incident.
Kousar was inducted alongwith her brother Aijaz as police constables.
