Jammu, June 8: Body of a slain militant, whose identity was caught in controversy, was exhumed from a local graveyard in Surankote area of Poonch district after his parents expressed the wish to bury him in their ancestral graveyard in Doda.
Body of the militant was exhumed by his family members after seeking permission from the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, police said on Tuesday, adding that the family members were allowed to take the body to their ancestral place in Dessa area of Doda district.
The militant, identified as Layaqat Ali son of Ghulam Muhammad of village Dessa, was reportedly killed in an encounter with the troops. But he was identified by troops as Nazakat Ali of Pakistan and buried in a local graveyard.
Sources said the family members identified their son after his picture appeared in a local newspaper and immediately contacted the district administration in Poonch expressing desire to bury the slain militant in Dessa.
Following the nod by the district administration, brother of the slain militant Muhammad Amin along with some other relatives exhumed the body today and took it to Dessa.
