Patients protest lack of medicine in B’Pore SDH
TARIQ RASOOL
Bandipore, June 8: Dozens of patients today protested against the management of the sub-district hospital here for “forcibly” evicting them from the wards after they resented lack of essential medicines.
The aggrieved patients alleged that the hospital was without essential medicines forcing them to purchase it from the open market. The patients said that when they took up the matter with the hospital management, they were allegedly evicted from the wards.
“Not to talk of essential medicines, even cotton, syringes and bandage is not available. The doctors prescribe medicines of particular brands, which are only available at private medical shops. There seems to be some nexus,” the patients alleged.
The locals said the hospital caters to 36 villages of the area. “In the absence of medicines, the problems of patients aggravated. We have many times staged protests to press for improvement of services in the hospital, but nothing happened. We appeal the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to look into the matter,” they said.
The Chief Medical Officer Bandipore, Ghulam Muhammad Shakasaz refuted the allegations. “We don’t have a provision to provide free medicines to patients except in emergency cases. Still we will look into the matter,” he said.
