Stringent security, unconcerned admin affect education

Schools closed; students, parents irked

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, June 8: Stringent security measures coupled with failure of the authorities to inform the people about working of schools Tuesday morning resulted in chaos at educational institutions as many of them remained closed putting the parents and their wards to inconvenience.
The chaos was more so for the schoolchildren appearing in bi-annual exams.
“My daughters had prepared for the day’s papers but the preparation went waste. Had the authorities announced about the closure, they would prepare accordingly,” said a parent adding “We had to risk our lives in reaching the school only to find it closed.”
Some of the parents complained that the school buses didn’t come to pick their wards and they had to ferry the kids to schools out of their own.
“But on reaching the school we were shocked to find it closed,” said a parent.
A principal of a leading private school said the Directorate of School Education should have formally announced a holiday for the City schools in the wake of unprecedented security measures.
“With so much of tension in the City, it was the duty of the directorate (of school education) people to take needful measures… Why risk the life if students,” said the principal requesting not to be named.
Interestingly, while the school education witnessed chaos, the Kashmir University appeared concerned for the students at higher levels as the varsity postponed scheduled exams in the wake of the PM’s visit.
Meanwhile, the civilian movement on the Dalgate-Nishat stretch of the Boulevard remained suspended for the second running day today. The restrictions were lifted after the Prime Minister flew back to the capital.
