Surya Roshni launches campaign against spurious steel pipes
GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu, Mar 11: Surya Roshni Limited launched an awareness programme to educate consumers across 250 cities in India about the hazards of using spurious pipes. The programme was initiated from Jammu on Thursday. Announcing the launch Utkarsh Dwivedi, Executive Director SRL, said the programme is aimed at educating dealers and 20000 retailers and consumers about the ill effects and hazards of using spurious steel pipes.
He said that company has sent around 100 youths for the mass contact programme all over the country with a view to create an awareness among the dealers and retailers about the right quality of pipes.
“These youth have been trained in the company about the techniques to identify the spurious quality of pipes and will educate dealers and retailers all over the country,” he added. Dwivedi claimed that the company, which is the largest exporter of GI pipes and flagship company of Rs 2000 crore Surya Group, has around 90 to 95 percent market share in the state of J&K, where they are dealing with various products of steel pipes and electric pipes from last around twenty years. He said the spurious pipes last for just two to three years while pipes manufactured as per prescribed norms last for over thirty years or more. At a cumulative level, consumers end up paying more if they use sub-standard pipes, he claimed. “Today sale of spurious pipes comprised over 30 per cent of the total steel pipe market sales”, he said adding, “These pipes are manufactured by using half the quality of spurious Goomati Zinc coating which reduces the life of the product”.He added that the poor quality pipes are produced using under gauge patra coils from patra sub standard steel, instead of tested HR coils manufactured by SAIL.
