Mirwaiz grieved at Tantawi’s demise

Srinagar, Mar 12: The Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has condoled the demise of vice-chancellor Al-Azhar University, Sheikh Muhammad Syed Tantawi, describing it great loss to Muslim world. Mirwaiz participated in his Nimaz-e-Jinaza in Madina Sharief, a Hurriyat statement said.
Meanwhile, the visiting team of British High Commission today met the acting chairman, Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat, who told them that peace in S Asia and Afghanistan hinged on resolution of Kashmir and involvement of Kashmiri leadership Indo-Pak talks.
Asserting there was no let up in rights abuses, Bilal Gani Lone told them about the killing of students: Wamiq Farooq, Anayat and Zahid Farooq, and razing of houses at Sopur by the forces.
Meanwhile, the JK Salvation Movement chairman, Zaffar Akbar Bhat today said the resolution of Kashmir was imperative for peace.
Addressing a prayer meeting at Brein, Nishat, he said, “India and Pakistan should start meaningful talks’ to resolve the issue.” He demanded revocation of black laws and release of detainees.
He appealed the international human rights organizations to pressurize India to stop rights abuses in Kashmir.
