Let’s contribute to Dal Lake conservation
This refers to the conservation of Dal Lake. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has deployed two state-of-the-art ‘Finnish machines’ to clean the over-polluted Lake. The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) officials along with engineers from Italy have put the two machines ‘Water Master Classic 3′ for testing the areas of the lake with heavy weed growth and shallow waters. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is very keen to see a well balanced and sewage-less Dal-lake in future. The multipurpose machines, which are known for their low maintenance and high success rate in conservation of lakes in many countries, could be used as suction dredgers and floating excavators simultaneously, which would be very productive, as per experts. Harri Tainio, an Italy based engineer who has come to Srinagar for helping in assembling and testing of the machine is confident that the machine would be successful in cleaning the Lake. It is a multi-purpose dredger. We can do many kinds of jobs with it. It has a lot of tools with it. We are just installing the suction raging tool. We have a 400-litre bucket, a 700-litre bucket, a pole erecting bucket and clamshell bucket. He also said that “On top of that of course, we have a pipeline so that we can pump up materials if necessary.” We Kashmiris should also ponder as we are primary actors to prevent more damage to Dal Lake. It is our responsibility to not to put sewage into the Dal lake and make sure it remains clean always.
