GMC employees strike irks students

GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Mar 15: The strike by the Medical Employees Federation at Government Medical College here on Monday irked the students who complained they were losing vital academic period to frequent strikes.
The students said while the academic sessions resumed after one week of strike, some employees of the college disrupted the teachings in the afternoon by “forcibly shutting projectors, switching off the lights and forcibly pushing students out of the classes.”
The striking employees were protesting against the administration for failing to reimburse two and half day extra salary.
The students complained that their academic calendar had been severely affected by frequent strikes and shutdowns. “We will not be able to complete the syllabus in time while our counterparts in Jammu region and in other states are advancing ahead of us.”
The students have appealed various organizations and employees unions to exempt medical colleges from the strikes and shutdowns.
