RBI holds outreach programme
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Mar 15: As part its Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, the Reserve Bank of India Jammu organized an outreach programme at village Debrah in Udhampur.
The programme was presided over by Shyamala Gopinath, Deputy Governor, RBI.
Speaking on the occasion, Shyamala Gopinath stated that in its Platinum Jubilee Year, RBI is reaching out to the common people living in the remotest corners of the country and informing them about the role, functions and objectives of the RBI and explaining how the Bank impacts their lives.
She also detailed the steps that RBI is taking to safeguard the peoples’ interests and their credit needs. She stressed that despite efforts made so far, there are still many people who are financially excluded. Therefore there was an urgent need to bring the under privileged people into the financial system for achieving inclusive growth.
Disclosing that Debrah village is one of the eight model villages in the State adopted by RBI for 100 per cent Financial Inclusion, Gopinath laid emphasis on Information Communication Technology (ICT) based initiatives like issuance of smart cards through the Banking Correspondent model for achieving the objective of financial inclusion and proving doorstep banking services to the rural poor, small and marginal farmers, people of small means, women, etc.
On the occasion, the Deputy Governor distributed smart cards issued by J&K Bank Ltd. and witnessed the activation/transactions through smart cards not only for the common villagers but also for the NREGA beneficiaries.
