What leads us to it?
DEPRESSION
HAVE A GOOD LIFE AND REDUCE THE CHANCES OF DEPRESSION, SUGGESTS SHAMI SHAIR
Depression is feared to figure first in the world within 3 to 4 years. It is a mental condition which makes us quite defused, confused and too unclear about things. It touches all age groups at one point of time or other. A small boy can also suffer once it is neglected; a growing baby inherits it from the atmosphere around if it is not friendly and congenial. Adolescence is the age wherein a child undergoes many physical changes. It is growing physically, yet he or she is called a child. There is a confusion which need to be explained by parents/counselors. The high risk age group is the one when a student has to appear in class XII. Pressure, unclear picture, limited choice about streams, poverty and negligence on the part of the parents can lead to depression. Experts like Prof. A. G. Madhosh would relate it to personality development caught at the young age (10 to 15 years), this method help the child grow the way he or she should, mentally or physically. This helps the child to identify the talents within and without and by the time stage XII reaches, he is in a better position to handle himself.
Prof. Margoob Banihali’s remarks that love, care and attention toward children which would be there before is missing. The role of grand parents, the blooming of a rose with different beautiful colours and shades was possible only because children were brought up in a healthy, collective and happy atmosphere. Today, parents are more busy than the children, result leads to negligence. Earlier, we were governed by ethics, morals, deep rooted cultural traditions, today we have squeezed our world to laptop and Google.
Rise in suicidal cases, the ever growing rush at psychiatric departments. Of SKIMS, Bemina, the increasing number of indoor patients is not good sign for a healthy society. The patient and time consuming hearing by doctors here is to be appreciated. The hospital as a whole and psychiatric department in particular is well equipped with latest equipment like EEG and other machinery.
Depression and domestic violence are deeply interlinked. Painful and disgusting the situation as it is for some, but for many it is a situation to enjoy and take pleasure out of it. Those who can control it remain silent spectators as it does not touch their skin. They would never try to reach to the truth. Destroying many lives by compelling them to go deep down the depression is not less than a sin. Domestic violence is greatly generated for self interests where my life is more important than others . This affects growing children badly and the impression of such scenes remain there.
This group of ladies suffer acute depression. Since they are pushed to cope up with such situations, killing themselves is an easy option for them. Cultivating and developing tolerance levels can be done by personality development coping strategies, understanding the overall socio-economic and domestic atmosphere and have to learn the art of living in worst conditions is to be taught at a young age not when everything is over.
Any prolonged disease is but natural to give rise to depression. In the given situation, you are not able to move, talk and do things which you would normally do. This also gives birth to isolation and despair. Wherever it is possible, family counseling does help, but, here, one can not do much. You really need a 100% healthy atmosphere around to make the patient knew there are people to care and attend.
Depression may be termed as a state of mind, but then how does that state of mind come. We remain a fragile society; we never think of others. Depression is not born out of nothing; we create situations for its birth and maturity. Depression is like a crack in the cup and can target us anytime. Seeing a bunch of flowers gives a feeling of lively and happy life. Let all of us spread the fragrance of love and care for each other. Healthier a life, lesser the chances of falling in depression.
