Rs 41.90 cr given to 705 families of slain policemen: Sagar
GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu, Mar 17: The Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Sagar today said Rs 41.90 crore had been given to 705 families of deceased policemen during past five years.
He said there was no statutory provision for the deduction from the salaries of Police personnel towards the Additional Welfare Fund. He, however, said that as policemen were exposed to high risk, an additional Welfare Fund was instituted in 1985 to provide immediate relief of Rs 6 lakh to the legal heirs of the deceased policemen who die in active service.
Replying to a question by Murtaza Ahmed Khan, he said a Committee of officers headed by Director General Police was regulating the Fund. He said an amount of Rs75.12 crore had been deducted during the past five years from the policemen towards Welfare Fund. He said the deposits under this Welfare Fund were Rs 62.38 crore up to January.
He said the retired policemen who were in distress are granted relief out of the retired policemen Welfare Fund.
In reply to another question by Nizam-ud-Din Khatana, Sagar said that persons living near forest areas could apply for arms license on the grounds of Self Defence to the concerned District Magistrate, who will consider the applications in terms of the provisions of the Arms Act and the Rules.
