Bigger issues than Central University that plague Kashmir
This refers to the article titled "protesting the protest" (GK 24 Feb) by Riyaz Ahmad. The author’s assertion that Valley was inexplicably calm during the period when Jammu was up in arms for a Central University is not true. I disagree that perhaps valley people do not give much importance to education. There is is a big difference between Jammu and Kashmir regions. People of Jammu are ‘free and independent.’ They have no problems whatsoever. They have a free environment to excel in their studies. But we Kashmiris are fighting for a bigger cause. There are other big problems in Kashmir to be solved than demanding a central university. We are being killed every other day. Hardly a day passes when any one is not killed in the Valley. There is no free environment where students could study at ease. The security forces have unleashed a reign of terror. And then there are bigger issues like unabated human right violations, disappearances, AFSPA etc. Once these things stop, only then can we think of issues like Central University.
