Jammu, Mar 1: The state government on Monday admitted that 2009 witnessed surge in infiltration.
 “During 2009, the gross infiltration (attempts) were estimated at 485 and net infiltration (number of militants) was 113,” the Minister incharge for Home informed the Legislative Assembly.
 “During 2008, infiltration bids were estimated at 342, while 57 militants intruded. There was an increase of 143 bids in 2009 and 56 more militants were able to infiltrate as compared to last year,” the Minister added.
 “A number of the steps have been taken to check infiltration. These measures include border fencing and its electrification, installation of night vision devices and heat sensing gadgets,” he added.
 Besides these, foot patrolling and establishment of border police posts for gathering intelligence were taken up.
