Farmers cautioned against excessive use of chemicals

Ganderba, Mar 21: At a one-day awareness camp organised by the Agriculture Department at Mamar Kangan in Ganderbal, experts stressed the need for the farmers to prepare 'vermicompost.
 The camp which was organised by Department of Agriculture Sub-Division Ganderbal was attended by hundreds of farmers.
 "The excessive use of chemicals has adverse effects on the plants and in order to avoid such harmful effects, farmers should adopt to the practice of vermicompost,” said Farooq Ahmad, Agriculture Assistant. The experts emphasised the need to cultivate oil seeds on technical basis.  They also demonstrated the farmers regarding the proper drainage, timely application of fertilizers.
 "Seed treatment for paddy is mandatory before the sowing of seeds to avoid paddy blast", Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal Mushtaq Ahmad Parray told the farmers on the occasion. Sheikh Mansoor Ahmad, Agriculture Extension Officer gave detailed information on the crop insurance to the farmers.  "Under the Crop Insurance Scheme, compensation against the loss and damage of the crops due to the natural calamity is provided," Sheikh said.
 The experts also asked the farmers to remain in touch with the department so that various schemes like National Water Shed Development Programme Under Rainfed Areas (NWDPRA), Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) etc could reach to them.
