Met office to observe World Meteorological Day today
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Mar 22: The Met Centre Srinagar would be observing World Meteorological Day in the Meteorological Centre at Ram Bagh on Tuesday.
World Meteorological Day would be observed worldwide by the meteorological community on Tuesday to mark the establishment of World Meteorological Organisation.
Each year a different theme is chosen for the occasion. The theme for this year is ’60 years of service for your safety and well being.’
An official of the Met office here said that the observatory at Ram Bagh would be kept open from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm for general public especially students.
“This year’s theme is relevant as communities around the world are struggling to attain the UN millennium development goals especially in terms of food, health, water security and poverty alleviation as well as to increase their effectiveness in preventing and mitigating natural disasters of which 90 per cent are related to weather, climate and water hazards—which fall with WMO mandate,” assistant meteorologist, Met office, Srinagar said.
