5 drug peddlers held: Police
CRIME REPORT
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Mar 25: In a special drive against drug peddlers, police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five peddlers in Soura and Lal Bazar areas on the City outskirts.
Reports said that on specific information, police raided several places in Soura and Lal Bazar areas and rounded up several persons. “Five among them were the peddlers while eight were addicts,” the police said. The Superintend Police Hazratbal, Maqsood-ul-Zaman confirmed that five peddlers had been arrested. “The eight addicts were handed over to their families after the counselling…The peddlers were booked,” he said.
The SP said the peddlers were initially luring youth to drugs and later selling them at higher prices.
The drug addiction in Kashmir has reached to an alarming proportion over the past several years and experts have warned of disaster in future if the menace wasn’t curbed immediately.
“We hail the action of police but the drive should continue as dozens of people are involved in the illicit trade in our area,” said Ghulam Hassan, a local.
