245 health centres being upgraded: Govt

Jammu, Mar 26: The Health Minister, Sham Lal Sharma today said the Government was upgrading 160 PHCs and 85 Community Health Centres and Sub-District Hospitals with adequate staff.
Replying to the Demand of Grants for the Health and allied departments in Assembly, he said telemedicine facilities had been introduced at Kupwara, Poonch, Kathua, Leh and Kargil besides 20 Blood Banks, including three Blood Component Separation Facility units, 15 X-ray plants, 14 Anesthesia Machines and 31 Dental units, have been provided to various health institutions.
He said construction of 108 health institutions had been taken up while construction of 32 buildings had been completed adding 125 ambulances had been procured.
He said, 21 specialists, 105 doctors and 482 paramedical staff had been engaged on contractual basis and additional 2000 doctors and paramedics were proposed to be engaged under National Rural Health Mission.
He said 10 per cent seats in postgraduate courses would be reserved for doctors serving in remote areas adding the medicos would be given additional marks.
