‘18 new polytechnics in J&K soon’

Jammu, Mar 27: The Minister for Technical and Medical Education, R.S. Chib today informed the Legislative Council that the Centre has sanctioned setting up of 18 polytechnics for various districts of the State, where such institutions have not been established so far. Replying to a question by Naresh Kumar Gupta, the Minister said that the existing Industrial Training Institute, Bhaderwah is being upgraded under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme. The Minister said that a new scheme, “Skills Development Initiative” (SDI) has been launched and a number of short term courses, including repairs of electric appliances, mobiles, computers and plumbering are being started under this scheme.
