Check tourist inflow to Pahalgam: Expert to govt
GK NEWS NETWORK
Pahalgam: Stressing on the need to maintain a check on the inflow of tourists to this world famous resort, head department of Geology and Geophysics, Kashmir University, Dr Shakeel Romshoo Saturday said the increased human interference was the reason for disturbing the ecosystem of the Lidder valley.
“The tourist influx to this place including foreign, national and domestic to Pahalgam during weekends in the summer season is very high. It is quite obvious that it will lead to pollution of environment. So we have to think of checking the inflow,” said Dr Romshoo.
He suggested that new tourist destinations need to be explored so that the heavy influx of tourists particularly domestic should get diverted.
He also suggested to maintain a check on number of yatris to Amarnath as there has been increase of temperature near the cave.
“We have been witnessing untimely melting of ice near Amarnath cave during last few years as the surface temperature of the glaciers is bound to increase if there is a increased human activity in its vicinity,” he said.
