Govt to reconsider civic poll schedule
GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu, Mar 27: The government will consider the demand for extension of dates for the finalization of the voter lists for upcoming Municipal and Panchayat elections and may also defer the Local Body polls.
The assurance came from law minister Ali Muhammad after opposition BJP members raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly this morning.
“We will re-consider the matter”, Sagar said.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta of BJP raised the issue soon after the House met for today’s business. He said the members want some more time for completion of voter lists as “due to the ongoing session were not able to reach-out to the constituencies for ensuring proper revision of the electoral rolls”.
Vikar Rasool, representing Banihal constituency, also wanted that the last date for finalization of voter list be extended so that the members could also monitor updating of the voter lists.
If the government concedes the demand, the Municipal polls, likely to be started in mid May, may get delayed for some time.
