Polio virus detected in Jammu slum

GK NEWS NETWORK

Jammu, Mar 27: The government said Saturday that a positive polio virus case was detected in a slum area of Jammu.
An official statement said virus has been detected in a child aged six months who was living in slum area of Fruit Mandi Jammu.
The parents of the child were Mayanmarese.
“The child had developed-P1 virus which is considered more dangerous than P2 & P3 virus. Therefore there is every likelihood that P1-Polio virus is still present in Jammu and may be in its surrounding districts also,” the statement added.
Keeping in view the magnitude of the problem, the government has therefore decided to launch a special polio campaign on Sunday (March 28) in order to kill this polio virus by providing additional oral polio drops to all the children upto the age of five years.
The campaign is being launched in the districts of Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts.
The WHO authorities shall be monitoring the implementation campaign in all the five districts.
