LA passes Bill to acquire benami properties

Jammu, Mar 2: The Assembly today passed four bills through voice vote, including the bill to prohibit benami transactions and allowing the government to take over such properties.
The Bill was moved by Minister for Law and parliamentary Affairs, Ali Muhammad Sagar to curb the corruption.
Other bills which were passed include bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Employees Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1961 moved by Minister for Labour and Employment, Abdul Gani Malik which aims at making a provision for appeal against the order to the Provident Fund Commission by the aggrieved employees within 30 days for review of the order, Bill to amend the J&K Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act, 2006, which aims to avail current year’s benefit of Rs.116 crore for bringing the fiscal deficit to 4 per cent of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and Bill to amend the J&K Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1997, which seeks amendment to slash down the rate of interest for arbitral awards to 6 per cent instead of existing 18 per cent.
