SMC employees stage dharna, threaten stirke

Srinagar, Mar 30: Hundreds of ministerial employees of Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday held two-hour Dharna in the lawns of central office press their demand for reorganization of the Corporation.
The employees are demanding the reorganization of the SMC for the past five years. And for the last 10 days, have been holding Dharnas to press for the fulfilment of this demand.
“Today’s dharna was organized by the Ministerial Staff Union under the leadership of wing president Nazir Ahmad Khan,” said a union handout.
Speaking the on occasion, the leaders demanded that the government should meet its commitment and implement the agreement reached with Union leaders on January 20, 2010, at Jammu.
The Union spokesman said the government has till date failed to meet its commitment on the demand.
The leaders said the government’s failure to implement the agreement was compelling them to take recourse to agitation. They threatened that the SMC employees would go on indefinite strike should the government fail to meet its commitment on the implementation agreement on reorganization immediately.
The leaders who spoke on the occasion include Municipal Employees’ Union president Haji Bashir Ahmad, General Secretary Shabir Ahmad Sofi and wing presidents: Muhammad Altaf Dar, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, Abdul Qayoom Latoo, Zahoor Ahmad Shah, Abdul Salam Baba and Zaffar Ahmad Qureshi.
