LC adjourned for lack of quorum
ZAHID BASHIR
Jammu, Mar 4: The Legislative Council on Thursday was adjourned due to lack of quorum with most of Treasury Bench members in their bid to foil an attempt by the PDP MLC Syed Asghar Ali to corner the government over appointment of Administrator Auqaf Kishtwar allegedly in violations of rules and regulations.
The House had allowed half an hour discussion on the issue of appointment of Administrator Auqaf as the member had alleged that the appointment was made by throwing all norms to winds and the fact has been admitted by the government in its written reply furnished in the House.
As the PDP MLC Syed Asghar Ali rose to initiate a discussion, here on Thursday, members from the treasury benches stood up and started protesting. They were seen shouting at the PDP legislator creating a ruckus in the House.
As nothing was audible, Deputy Chairman Arvinder Singh Micky adjourned the House for ten minutes.
However, when the House resumed its business, no one except members from PDP were present in the House forcing the deputy chairman to adjourned the House for lack of quorum.
Later talking to the media persons, Syed alleged that the treasury benches have violated the rules of the House only to avoid embarrassment to the House. He said the government had itself admitted in the House that the appointment of Administrator Auqaf Kishtwar was made in violation of rules.
It is for the first time that the House has been adjourned for lack of quorum especially when the members from the treasury benches absented themselves.
