NAC to regularise foreign education institutions: Sibal
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, Mar 5: The government today said a National Accreditation Authority is on the cards for regularising foreign education providers in the country.
“A legislative proposal for regulating the entry and operation of foreign educational institutions in India is under consideration of the government,” Human Resource Development Minister Kabil Sibal told Rajya Sabha.
Replying to questions, Sibal said, “We want to set up National Accreditation Authority. The bill related to it will come soon. All institutions will be under the scanner of this Authority and only those providing quality education will be given accreditation.”
The Minister said despite best efforts, 69 institutions are still outside the purview of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). “We want to move towards regulation,” he said.
To another query, Sibal said that seven collaborations have been made between Indian and foreign institutions for imparting education including technical education in the country.
“I would like to inform that all inter-ministerial consultations are over for Foreign Education Providers Bill and it will soon go to Cabinet,” he said.
