‘JK to harness 14000 MW’

Jammu, Mar 6: Saying that the government is endeavouring to harness the huge power potential of the state, the Minister of state for Power and CAPD, Shabir Ahmad Khan has said that initiatives are underway to generate, 14000 MW Power in phased manner in the state.
Addressing a largely attended public gathering at border village Bainglad, Samba today, the Minister said that J&K has a huge Power potential of 20000 MW which needs to be harnessed properly to make the state self reliant.
He said the process for execution of 300 more Power Projects have been started, adding that the construction work on Baghilar-II, Sawalakote, Sewa-I,II and III, Kishanganga, Lower Jhelum-II Hydro-electric Power Projects have been taken up under State and Centre Sector.He said that Government would also encourage the construction of Power projects under Joint venture and public-private partnership mode in the State.
Lauding the role of UPA Government for providing liberal financial assistance to the state for all round development under Prime Ministers Reconstruction programme, the Minister said that under the programme, the power scenario of the state would improve to a large extent.
He said Power Scenario was being upgraded by installing requisite infrastructure to save the Power loses and load shedding in all the districts.
He said that the work on number of Grid Stations , besides laying of new High and Low Transmission Lines are in apace across the State.
