Mir for infusing latest technology in farm sector

Jammu, Mar 7: Minister for agriculture Ghulam Hassan Mir has stressed for infusing technology in farm sector and diversifying the crop cultivation. The minister conducted a day-long inspection of Seed Multiplication Farm spreading over 2586 acres near border line at Chinore.
Minister of State for Agriculture, Javid Ahmad Dar was accompanying Mir. Besides, director agriculture and other senior officers of farm were present.
The minister said that every effort should to be made to get maximum yield from this farm and added that innovative steps have to be taken to gear up the machinery and men to achieve the goal for which this farm has been established.
He said time had come for the department to take the initiatives, which our neighbouring states did for ushering into green revolution.
Mir said the state has sufficient land area, if cultivated on the modern techniques would help to make this profession profitable and make the state self sufficient in agriculture and horticulture products.
He said that the desired goal be achieved only by close coordination between farmers, growers and allied Government departments.
Javaid Ahmad Dar said that these Farms should be modelled on such pattern that they can serve as training centres as well as demonstration Centre for the young and up coming Scientists and the farming community. He said that government is committed to provide every assistance to make it profitable passion for the farming community across of the state.
Ministers directed the Director Agriculture to introduce triple cropping system in the Farm to make it quality seed bank for the farmers of the State. They directed him to put the services of SUKAST for this goal. They also directed him to bring maximum private and government land for seed production, so that the State would be at par with national seed distribution level. During en-route, they announced Karloof village as seed village.
Earlier, the Ministers dedicated five brand new tractors to the Farm to add their machinery fleet.
Giving the detailed activities of the Seed Multiplication Farm, the Director Agriculture, informed the Ministers that the Farm is producing quality seeds of various crops in Kharief and Rabi season, besides, providing enough revenue to the Government.
The director put forth the various suggestions and demands for optimum utilization of the land area of the Farm to yield bumper crops, which include, Purchasing of latest machinery for levelling, providing of assured irrigation facilities, fencing of the farms, repair and renovation of seed godowns, improvement of farm layout and construction of approach roads and fulfilment of vacant posts.
The Ministers also directed the authorities to make a comprehensive proposal for all these demands and assured that necessary steps would be taken in this regard on priority basis.
For the upgradation of approach roads of farm, MoS R&B directed concerned to send a comprehensive proposal for the same so that it would be covered under NABARD.
