CBI probing DDK malpractices: Jatua
‘Shezadi Simon chargesheeted’

New Delhi, Mar 8: The Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, C M Jatua today informed the Rajya Sabha that the Central Bureau of Investigation was probing into the allegation of malpractices by Director of Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Dr Rafique Masoodi in bulk purchase of tapes.
In a written reply, he said that a complaint had been received against Dr Masoodi alleging that he purchased tapes in bulk containing 9591 segments of programme Subhai-Subhai from private produces to “obtain maximum amount of illegal gratification.” Jatua said the investigation report is awaited.
He said the CBI conducted investigations in respect of complaints regarding corruption and mismanagement pertaining to the software against officials, who were responsible for allotment of serials for the Kashir channel.
Investigations were conducted against Suraiya Hashmi and Rajesh Kaul against the alleged malpractices in allotment of programme. However, the allegations were not substantiated against Suraiya Hashmi and Kaul. However memo was issued to Kaul. Similarly the CBI recommended penalty against T K Das, then Director of the Kashir channel and M A Beg.
The complaint was also received against Fayaz Shahriyar, but the allegation could not be substantiated.
Inquiry was also instituted against former Director Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar, Shezadi Simon who was found allegedly responsible for projecting bogus expenditure to the tune of Rs 6 crores for production of in house programmes. She has been chargesheeted for the lapse by the ministry.
