Varmul-Handwara road cut off

UMER MAQBOOL DAR

Handwara, May 10: Following washing away of the diversion link on Mawar stream at Khuroo Langate, the Varmul and Handwara area is disconnected from the past five days causing tremendous hardships for the people. The diversion was washed due to incessant rainfall.
“The district administration is in deep slumber and hasn’t made any alternate arrangements for the vehicular and pedestrian movement,” said Nazir Ahmed.
“The students and government employees are facing problems in reaching to their educational institutions and offices on time,” said Javaid Ahmed Mir of Kralgund.
When contacted the deputy commissioner, Kupwara Showkat Ahmed Mir said the matter had been taken up with BEACON authorities.
“They have assured us of repairing the road diversion quickly,” he said.
He said the BEACON had also assured of completing the bridge construction on the stream by September 2009, but they failed to meet the deadline.
