‘Set up more horticulture, floriculture units to boost economy’

Srinagar May 11: Minister for Horticulture, Floriculture and Health, Sham Lal Sharma today visited Gassuo (Zakura) and inspected the Strawberry orchards. He handed over a cheque amounting to Rs. 50,000 to an orchard owner namely Abdul Ahad Mir of Gaasuo on account of government share/departmental assistance for handling unit established by Mir, an official statement said.
Interacting with the farmers, the Minister for establishing more such horticulture units to give boost to State’s economy.
He said that the Government is endeavouring to promote export of the fruits in a big way. The Minister also inspected some Floriculture units sat up under private sector with the Financial and Technical assistance of the Floriculture department. He also visited Shalimar and Nishat gardens and took stock of the where he review ongoing beautification works. Director Horticulture, Director Floriculture and Director Planning and Marketing accompanied the Minister during the visit.
