ISI destroyed Ganga: Hashim Qureshi
ZULFIKAR MAJID
Srinagar, May 12: The Democratic Liberation Party Chairman, Hashim Quershi, Wednesday revealed that Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) destroyed Ganga aeroplane in Lahore, which he and his cousin Ashraf Quershi had hijacked from Srinagar in 1971.
“If we had to destroy the plane, we could have done it on the very first day. It remained stranded at Lahore airport for 4-days. A brigadier of ISI, who was with us, decided to destroy the plane,” Quershi told reporters after releasing his two books “The undeniable Truth and Kashmir Ke Talakh Haqiak” at a function here.
He said that after he refused to accept ISI’s offer to head militancy in Kashmir in 80’s he had to run from Pakistan and take shelter in Europe. “I had written in January 1991 in an article that militancy will bring only death and destruction to Kashmir. Analyze that article today and it is a reality,” he said.
Hashim claimed that gun and strikes had yielded nothing. “The struggle of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Muhammad Yasin Malik and me will achieve nothing. Neither have we unity, nor a common programme. Gun has yielded nothing and frequent strikes have ruined our economy".
The DLP chairman dared the people who label him as “Indian agent” to come forward with proofs. “This is a malicious propaganda against me,” he said.
Hashim alleged that “draconian laws” in Kashmir were being misused by the state against its opponents. “Here Chief Minister, SSP or a secretary decides who has to be detained and who has to be released. Shabir Ahmad Shah’s PSA has been quashed several times, but despite that he isn’t being released.
