Srinagar gets Ericsson Mobile MSC switch
‘It will introduce new technology in Kashmir Valley’

Srinagar, May 12: Union Minister of State for Communication & IT inaugurated Mobile MSC Switch at Wideband building of BSNL here today.
The MSC switch of M/s Ericsson has replaced earlier Nokia MSC switch to introduce high technology in Kashmir Valley.
It is working on IP technology which is compactable for 3G services planned to be introduced shortly and it will also help in providing Mobile No. portability service, the policy which is under consideration.
This switch is able to give support to various BSCs which cover Kashmir valley and Ladakh Region also.
At present in J&K, 8.76 Lakh mobile connections are there. Out of this 3.26 Lakh are postpaid and 5.50 lakh are prepaid. All these connections are served through 964 BTSs.
In Kashmir valley 1.23 Lakh postpaid and 36,670 prepaid connections are working and served through 410 BTSs.
For the sake of customer convenience, recently Cell bill payment (CBP) has been introduced. Agents were engaged so that customer can pay directly through CBP system who approach the concerned designated agents. It will save the time of the customers as well as avoid disconnection. It has very good response from the public.
The Minister also had meeting with the telecom officers who apprised him about the BSN services.
