12.60 lakh cft timber to be distributed among consumers: Altaf

Srinagar, May 13: The Forest Department would provide 12.60 lakh cft timber to the consumers of Kashmir for construction and repairs during current financial year on controlled rates.
 This decision was taken at a meeting, held here with the Forest Minister Mian Altaf Ahmed in chair.
 Altaf underscored the need for bringing transparency in the department. He cautioned the functionaries that no timber should be issued to undeserved persons and warned of action if anyone found guilty.
 He ordered proper verification of consumers for sanction of timber by concerned DFO’s adding the timber shall be issued in favour of the family head.       
 He asked officers for early extraction of timber from forests and directed that quality timber should be dumped at forest sale depot in time so that it could be issued in June.
 He asked the officers of Forest divisions of Shopian, Ganderbal, Peerpanchal to utilize the already released funds of Rs.1.75 crore under Compensatory Management Plan for aforestation.
 He said the government would appreciate performing officers.
